Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 scant cups sugar
1 c shortening
2 eggs
1 t soda
1 c sour milk
1 t nutmeg
1 T baking powder
½ t salt
5 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Put 1st three ingredients together in the usual way. Combine all dry ingredients. Add gradually to previous mixture, alternating with sour milk. Final dough will seem to be too soft. Do not add more four.
Roll quite thick. Bake at 425 deg until barely beginning to brown. It helps to refrigerate overnight first.

I like to make a double batch and freeze them, and take our one or two as needed. They freeze very nicely and thaw very quickly.

(This recipe comes from Agnes Jehnzen who got it from her mother-in-law, Evelyn Jehnzen.)
