1 c. soft shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs beaten
2 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cinnamon mixture:
1 tbsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs. Mix together flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt. Add flour mixture to batter. Chill dough for an hour or two. Roll dough in walnut size balls. Roll balls in cinnamon mixture.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until lightly browned but still soft. They puff up at first and flatten out with a crinkled crust.

She made all kinds of sweets at Christmas, but nothing could top her decorated sugar Christmas cookies. I'm sorry that I don't have her recipe for those cookies.
