1 lb pitted dates chopped
1/2 c water
1/2 c sugar

1/2 c butter
1/2 c sugar brown
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
1/2 t vanilla
1 3/4 c flour
1/2 t soda
1/2 t salt
1 c nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates, water 1/2 c sugar in saucepan. Cook 2 - 3 min. Cool. Cream butter, sugars, egg, beat and vanilla. Sift dry and add. Divide dough in 1/4. Roll one part to 1/4" thick. Spread 1/2 date mix and nuts over dough. Roll like jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper. Repeat. Chill till firm. Cut 1/4" slices. greased cookie sheet 400 8 - 10 minutes.
