5 qt. popped corn
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. light corn syrup
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
1. Crisp popped corn in slow oven while preparing syrup.
2. Boil rest of ingredients (not vinegar or vanilla) together to very hard-ball stage, 256º F.
3. Add vinegar, vanilla. Cook to light-crack stage, 270º F.
4. Slowly pour over popcorn. Stir well to coat all kernels.
5. Press into balls (careful, it will be hot!).
6. Use butter on your hands.
7. Makes about 20 balls.

I’m not sure what is meant by “crisp the popped corn in a slow oven…” I remember making these with Mother when I was growing up. The syrup was always so hot when you picked the mix up to roll, but did it ever smell good!
