1.5 c flour 1 c butter
1 t baking powder 1 c brown sugar
1/2 t baking soda 1.5 c rolled oats
1/4 t salt

Date Filling:
1/2lb dates 1/2 c cold water
2 T sugar (brown or white)
1 t lemon juice 2 T orange juice

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Rub in butter with tips of fingers. Add sugar and rolled oats. Spread half of crumbs in a greased shollow pan (8x14). Pat to make smooth. Cover with cooled date filling, spread evenly, then cover with remainder of crumbs. Pat smooth. Bake at 325º for 30 to 35 minutes. Increase heat slightly towards end to brown.

Cook dates, water, orange rind and sugar in a small saucepan over a moderate heat until thick and smooth. Remove from heat and add fruit juices. Mix well. Cool before spreading.
