1 c flour
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp grated lemon rind
1 c margarine
1 c brown sugar
2 c quick cooking rolled oats
Mix flour, soda and salt in bowl. Cut in margarine, add sugar and oats and mix well. Spread 2/3 of mixture in square or oblong pan. Pat smooth and cover with cooled date filling.

1/2 lb dates
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c water
2 eggs
1/4 c icing sugar
1 c flaked coconut
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Boil together over medium heat dates, sugar and water until very soft. Cool. Beat eggs in bowl, add icing sugar then stir in the coconut, lemon juice and date mixture. Spread on bottom layer of squares and sprinkle remainder of crumb mixture on top. Bake in slow oven 325ºF for 30 min.
