1 meaty ham bone (or chopped cooked ham)
1 package dried split peas
1 whole peeled garlic clove
1 onion chopped
2 c chopped carrots
Pinch of thyme
Bay leaf
Pepper to taste
Salt to taste, if needed




Directions:
Directions:
Add ham bone and split peas to 8 c. water.

Add remaining ingredients & bring to boil. Simmer until peas are cooked.
Remove ham bone & bay leaf from pot. Remove any remaining meat from the bone and add back to the pot before serving.

Grandpa “Biddy” Bishop (Levesque) carried pea soup in his lunch pail to school in Tomahawk Wis. when he was a boy at the turn of the 20th century. Hearty French Canadian fare.
