Cheddar, Vegetable, and Sausage Strata Recipe

9, 1"-thick slices of French bread (each ~3x5")
5 large eggs
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp dired basil
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 c. half and half
2 c. (packed) grated sharp cheddar cheese (~8 oz)
3 portobello mushrooms (cut into 2x1/4" strips)
15 cherry tomatoes (halved)
6 oz smoked sausage (cut into 1/2" cubes)
2 tbsp onion (minced)
Parsley (chopped fresh)
13 x 9 x 2" glass baking dish.

Directions:
Directions:
1. Fit 8 bread slices in prepared dish.
2. Cut remaining bread slices into cubes to fit any empty spaces in the pan.
3. Whisk eggs, mustard, basil and salt in a medium bowl to blend. Then this in the half and half.
4. Ladle custard over bread.
5. Cover, chill at least 2 hours or overnight.
6. Preheat oven to 350 F.
7. Sprinkle mixture in dish with black pepper then top with half of the cheese, then mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, sausage, onion and remaining cheese.
8. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 20 min.
9. Remove foil and bake until strata is set and springy to touch (about another 20 min.).
10. Cool for 5 min, sprinkle with parsley and serve (hot or warm).
