3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. pitted dates - chopped
3/4 c. water
3/8 tsp. vanilla
Dough:
3/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1 c. br. sugar
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. baking powder
4 Tbs milk (about)

Directions:
Directions:
Cook together sugar, dates, and water until thick. Keep stirring. Allow to cool, then add vanilla.
Blend butter, flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, baking soda and baking powder to resemble course meal.
Add milk gradually. Mix lightly, but thoroughly with fork until dough is moist enough to roll.
Gather into a ball, roll out onto a well floured board to 1/8 " thickness.
Cut with round cookie cutters.
Place 1 tsp. filling on the top
Bake at 375º for about 15 min,
