1 bag full of green beans (about 6-8 cups, fresh or already bagged, ends snapped off and broke in half then washed)
½ - 1 whole onion, chopped
8 slices of bacon, fried up and grease reserved
2 Tbsp bacon grease (which is what should be from cooking the bacon, may need add’l )
1 tsp dried, crushed Basil
2 big Bay leaves
½ tsp dried Thyme
½ tsp garlilc powder
Lowry’s seasoning salt & pepper to taste (about 1 tsp each at least)
A little cayenne pepper

Directions:
Directions:
• In a large dutch oven that has a lid, cook the bacon until done (not real crisp) and set on paper towel to drain. Keep grease in the pan.
• Add the chopped onion and sauté until it begins to soften.
• Add the green beans and toss in the grease to coat.
• Add about 2 – 3 cups of water, enough to cover the green beans.
• Add the Basil, Bay leaves, Thyme, Garlic powder, salt & pepper and stir.
• Cook on medium for about 10 min, until you see the water beginning to boil.
• Turn heat to low, let cook another 45 min – 1hr at least (I let mine cook 2 hrs sometimes for better flavor).

** If you like, you can add small red potatoes to the pot…about 6 – 8….and cook until the potatoes are tender.

Personal Notes:
Wendi learned how to make these awesome green beans from her grandmother, Wanda Davis Wilson, when she was about 6 years old and has been making them ever since. One of Wendi's fondest memories is sitting out on the porch with her Pappaw "snapp'n" beans.
