1/1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
12 cups thinly sliced pared apples (about 10 medium)
2 tbsp butter or margarine
Pastry for 9 inch

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 425º
Stir together sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt; mix with apples. Turn into increased square pan 9x9x2 inches; dot with butter. Prepare pastry as directed (make your own or purchase pre-made pie crust) Roll dough into 10 inch square. Fold pastry in half, cut slits near the center. Unfold over the fruit in pan; fold edges under just inside edge of pan. Bake one hour or until juice begins to bubble through the slits. Best served warm.
*If using self rising flour - omit salt
**No apples? Substitute 3 cans (1 lb, 4 oz ea) apple slices, drained, for the fresh apples. Use half the amounts of sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Bake for 45 mins.
