1 baked 9 inch pie shell
1/3 c. flour 2/3 sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 c. milk
3 egg yolks slightly beaten
2 tablespoon margarine
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

filling:
3 egg yolks
1/2 cream of tarter
6 tablespoon sugar.

Fruit Filing options:
banana or peach: slice 2 or 3 bananas or peaches into pie shell add filling
Butterscotch: Substitute 1 c. dark brown sugar and 3 tablespoon margarine
coconut: add 1 cup coconut filling and 1/2 cup over unbaked meringue.

Directions:
Mix flour, 2/3 cup sugar, salt ; gradually add milk. cook, stirring , over low flame until thick. stir small amount of mixture into egg yolks; add to remaining hot mixture. cook 2 min. add margarine and vanilla, cool. pour into pie shell. spread with meringue made by beating egg whites and cream of tarter until stiff and beating in 6 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time. Bake in a 350º 12-15 min.
