6 sweet potatoes
1 stick of butter
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
Place whole sweet potatoes in a steamer and cook until tender for about 25 to 30 minutes.
Drain and cool. Do not over cook. Potatoes will continue to cook in the oven.
Peel and slice the cooled sweet potatoes. Slice lengthwise and then in 1/2 to 1-inch slices. Arrange slices in a 13X9X2 baking dish. In a saucepan, cook brown sugar, butter, water and salt. Cook over medium heat until the brown sugar has dissolved. Pour the sugar mixture over the sweet potatoes and bake for 1 hour. Baste occasionally with the brown sugar sauce.

You can use a cast iron skillet to cook the brown sugar mixture, Add the sweet potatoes to the sugar mixture. Simmer on low for 30 minutes basting often. Grandma Dolly always made this classic recipe for candied sweet potatoes in a cast iron skillet on the stove.
