Crust:
1 ½ c. flour
½ tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
4 Tbsp. cold shortening, in small pieces
1 egg
¼ tsp. vanilla

Filling:
½ lb. (2 sticks) butter
1 c. brown sugar
3 c. chopped pecans
¼ c. heavy cream

Glaze:
6 oz. semisweet chocolate OR 1 c. chocolate chips
4 Tbsp. butter, in small pieces

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 X 13” baking pan.
To make crust: Mix flour, baking powder & salt. Cut in shortening until mixture is texture of cornmeal. Mix egg & vanilla, then add to dry mixture. Dough should be crumbly. Spread mixture evenly in pan & press firmly over surface. Bake for 5 min.

To make filling: Melt butter & brown sugar. Stir until thoroughly combined. Bring to boil over high heat & cook to soft ball stage (240 degrees on candy thermometer). Remove from heat. Combine pecans & cream and add to caramel mixture. Pour over baked crust and smooth it out. Chill thoroughly.

To make glaze: Melt chocolate & butter together. Spread evenly over filling. Chill until set and cut into bars.
