Grandma Collins' Chocolate Pie Recipe

1 baked pie crust
1 c sugar
1/4 c cornstarch
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 c milk
3 oz baking chocolate or 9 Tbls cocoa
3 egg yolks
2 tsp vanilla
1 Tbls butter

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt and cocoa. Add milk. Cook over medium heat until thickened, 1 minute. Mix small amount into egg yolks, return to pan. Cook 1 more minute. Take off heat; mix in vanilla and butter; cool.

Beat egg whites till stiff. Add 6 Tbsp of sugar to create meringue. Put filling in crust; add meringue. Bake in oven 400 degrees 5 minutes to brown.
