1/2 c shortening or margarine
1 c white sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c milk
1 1/2 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
grated rind of 1 lemon
1/2 c chopped nuts (if desired)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar and cream again. Add beaten eggs. Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk. Add the nuts and rind. Bake in loaf pan at 350ºF 60 to 65 min. While hot spoon over 1/4 c white sugar mixed with juice of the lemon.
