2 cups flour
1 tsp. Salt
2/3 cup shortening
1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
5 cups peeled sliced apples ( or more)
2 T. Flour
1/1/4 cup sugar
1 T. Butter
1 egg white slightly beaten (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour and salt ( I never do)
Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Mix egg yolk with milk and stir into flour mixture.
Pat 1/2 the dough into a 13"x9" cake pan ( I roll it out)
Mix the flour and sugar and sprinkle over apples.
Spread the apple and sugar mixture on the unbaked dough
Dot with butter
Roll rest of dough to fit the pan
Place over apples.
Brush with egg white if you wish. Bake 45 minutes at 375 degrees
If you wish-- pit a thin powder sugar frosting on..

This is a great recipe for a crowd . Carl likes a light powder sugar frosting dabbed on.
I got it from my friend, neighbor and partner. She made. Wonderful pies
