2 ½ cups cake flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp Allspice
½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
¾ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup prune pulp*
¼ cup sour cream
¾ cup prune juice

Directions:
Directions:
Shift flour, add baking powder, soda and spices, shift again. Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; cream together until light and fluffy. Add unbeaten eggs one at a time beating thoroughly after each addition; add prune pulp. Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream and prune juice, stirring only enough after each addition to blend thoroughly. Pour into 2 greased 9-inch layer pans. Bake in at 350 for 30 minutes. Frost with Coffee Butter Frosting. *To make prune pulp: Place prunes in a saucepan; cover with cold water. Bring to a boil and boil briskly for 1 hour or until the prunes are very soft. Remove the pit and cut up, or beat with a mixer unit small pieces.

If I had to have cake for my birthday, the only one I wanted was my mother's prune cake. Pete felt the same. Anne wanted brownies and butterscotch sauce, but the prune cake was high on her list.
