FILLING:
1 pkg dates
½ C water
½ C sugar
1 T vanilla
1 C chopped pecans

COOKIE DOUGH:
4 C flour
1 t baking soda
1 t salt
1 C butter
2 C brown sugar
2 eggs
1 T vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
FILLING: Cook the chopped dates, water and sugar slowly until the dates are soft. Remove from the heat, beat until smooth. Add the vanilla and nuts.

DOUGH: Cream the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add and blend all dry ingredients. Chill dough thoroughly. On a floured board, roll the dough to a thickness of 1/4" in a rectangle about 9”X20”. Spread the date filling on the dough almost to the edges. Roll up like a jellyroll. The roll will be about 1 ¼” to 1 ½” in diameter. Cut the roll in half, wrap in foil or wax paper and refrigerate several hours. When ready to bake, slice thinly. Bake on a greased baking sheet at 350º for about 8 minutes.
