3 packages dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water with the east
5 c. self rising flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. soda or baking powder
1 c. Crisco Shorten
2 c. luke warm buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in the 1/2 cup warm water and set aside until it dissolves. Mix soda or baking powder and sugar with Crisco. Cut in Crisco and add flour. Add the luke warm buttermilk. Mix until the dough is ready to make out. Let rise at room temperature before baking. Preheat oven to 350º and bake 10 or 15 minutes.

When Mama Smith wrote this recipe down on May 28, 1983 she called them "Hot East Rolls". We are not sure if this was intentional but we have called them that ever since.
