1 medium onion, diced
1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/2 to 3/4 tsp garlic salt
1/2 cube butter or margarine
2 to 3 stalks fresh broccoli, chopped
1 [8 oz] pkg. cream cheese
1/2 can canned milk [or 1 cup half 'n' half -my addition]
1/2 cube butter
Optional: bacon

Directions:
Directions:
Saute onions, mushrooms and garlic salt in melted butter for approximately 7 minutes.
Add chopped broccoli, stir another 3 minutes.
Add water until broccoli and vegetables are barely sticking above water line in a few places.
Cover and bring to boil.
Boil on medium heat for 12 to 15 minutes.
Turn heat down to warm.
Add 1/2 cube butter and the cream cheese portioned in eighths to the water.
Cook for 7 to 10 minutes, breaking up the cream cheese with a utensil.
Add 1/2 can canned milk. [If you like thicker soup, mix 1 T corn starch with 1/4 cup milk and add slowly to soup.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Bacon can be cooked until crisp and added before serving.

This recipe was submitted by your grandpa. At one of the company lunches, the administrative assistant to Grandpa's boss, Ron Melton, brought this soup. It has been a favorite every since.
