3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
6 oz. butter
3/4 cup sugar + 2 tablespoons
4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
Custard Sauce:
6 large egg yolks
6 tablespoons sugar
2 cups milk
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients and cut in butter to resemble crumbs.
Beat eggs and milk.and mix into dry ingredients.
Cut apples into 4th and each piece in 3rds.
Mix apples with 3/4 cup sugar and toss to coat apples
Add to cake mixture until just mixed.
Transfer to buttered spring form pan and flatten top with spatula.
Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar and bake at 375 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes.
Let cool and remove from pan
Slice and serve with custard sauce.
Custard sauce:
Mix egg yolks with sugar.
Heat milk and temper the egg yolks with 1 to 2 tablespoons of hot milk mixed in and then transfer to the hot milk, stirring constantly until thick.
Add vanilla.
Serve warm over larges slices of apple cake.
