Ingredients:
Ingredients:
5 - 7 tart apples (about 5 c.)
1 9" unbaked pastry shell
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/3 c. sugar
3/4 c. flour
6 Tbsp. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º F.

Pare apples, core and cut in eighths. Arrange in unbaked pastry shell. Mix 1/2 c. sugar & cinnamon; sprinkle over apples.

Mix 1/3 c. sugar with the flour, cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Bake for 35-40 minutes or till done. If pie browns too quickly, cover edges with foil. Cool. Pass whipped cream.

Note: I just started peeling and slicing apples right into the pie crust until I had a nice heaping amount of apples. Pie was done when tooth pick inserted in the apples indicated they were soft.

Personal Notes:
My go-to recipe for apple pie from the fifth printing (1972) of the Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book. I would imagine this was a wedding or shower present in 1973. Note: Jim always much preferred vanilla ice cream vs. whipped cream on this pie.
