1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Frosting:
1/4 cup + 2 T. softened butter or shortening
2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup flaked coconut
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cake: Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour 9 x 13-inch pan (or 9 x 9)
Cream together butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour.
Stir in vanilla. Pour into pan and bake 30-35 minutes.

While cake is warm, spread frosting on top and broil for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.

Frosting:
Combine softened butter or shortening with brown sugar, flaked coconut, heavy whipping cream and vanilla.
