1/2 cup melted butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract

2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon

4 tart apples, peeled and sliced ( granny smith or ida reds)
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
BLEND first four ingredients
COMBINE flour and next 3 ingredients; add to butter mixture stirring until blended
STIR in apple slices and walnuts
SPREAD into greased 13" by 9" pan

BAKE at 350º for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
COOL completely in pan on wire rack
SPREAD with cream cheese frosting or SPRINKLE with powdered sugar

This was a special cake when I was a child, because we used to drive to Grandma and Grandpa Davis' house for Sunday dinner once a month and My mom (Nama) would make this to take with us because the cake traveled well in car. It was a 2 hour drive from Flint to Grand Rapids.
