Directions: |
Directions:Meat: 1. Place roast in crock pot, sprinkle 1 pkg. Lipton Onion Soup mix over roast. 2. Cook on low for 24 hrs. (I turn it on the night before if I'm planning for dinner) 3. In morning, pull meat apart, removing any obvious fat. 4. Continue to let cook on low all day in own broth. Spread/Bread: 1. Mix 1 pkg. Lipton Onion Soup mix with sour cream. Set aside. 2. Slice hoagies lengthwise if they aren't already sliced. 3. Spread sour cream mixture over bread. Prepare to broil if you are ready to eat. Au Jus: 1. Drain broth from crock pot into a small saucepan. Add other broth or beer to attain the amount of au jus you need. 2. Heat until boiling. May want to boil longer if you use beer so you cook out the strong alcohol flavor. |

Notes: Originally, Grandma Scott's recipe. She preferred to use beer for the au jus. I think she just wanted an excuse so she could finish off the rest of the beer from the bottle! HaHa. I use a roast that generally has a string around it. It seems like they pull apart the best after cooking. Okay to remove string before or after cooking. It's okay to use a frozen roast, but cooks better/faster if unfrozen.
