Irish Soda Bread Recipe

4 cups flour
4 TBSP sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 TBSP baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup softened margarine

ADD:
1 cup buttermilk
1 beaten egg
1 cup raisins

Directions:
Directions:
1. In large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt and margarine.
2. Gradually add the buttermilk, egg and raisins. Mix well.
3. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead slightly.
4. Form into a round circle on a cookie sheet.
5. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup buttermilk and 1/4 cup melted butter
6. Brush milk mixture on top of bread.
6. Make an "X" on top with sharp knife.
7. Bake in 375º oven on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
8. Can continue to brush the buttermilk and butter mixture during baking.
