2 Cups Flour
1/3 Cup Sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 Cup cold butter, cut in pieces
2/3 Cup buttermilk
1 tsp almond extract
1 cup chopped dried Door County Cherries
Coarse sugar for sprinkling on scones before baking (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Using a wire whisk, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut butter into dry ingredients until it forms coarse crumbs.

Stir in buttermilk and almond extract.

Carefully fold in fruit, do not over mix.

Turn out onto lightly floured surface and shape the dough into a 7" circle. Put on a parchment lined cookie sheet and cut into 6 wedges, but leave them where they lay (together). You can stack 2 baking sheets to keep the bottom from over browning.

Sprinkle tops with coarse ground sugar.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake 20 minutes, makes 6 scones.
