Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cp milk
1/2 cube butter
3 egg yolks
1 cp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 coconut flakes
1 cps chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
In a med saucepan whisk the milk and the egg yolks, sugar and vanilla together. Cut up the butter into 4-5 pieces and drop it in the pan as well. Stir constantly with a whisk over med-low heat until mixture boils -- boil about 5 min while it thickens. Remove from heat. Add coconut and pecans and stir them in well. Let cool completely. The cake and the frosting must be completely cool before you frost the cake.

Use a Milk Chocolate cake mix if you can't find a German Chocolate mix. I haven't found a German Chocolate mix in years. When I use this on a round layer cake I use it just in-between the layers and on top. If you put it on the sides it tends to just slide down onto the plate. Store bought Coconut Pecan Frosting is just awful!! Making this isn't difficult and it's soooooo worth it.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
One time I tried to save time by starting the milk, sugar and vanilla on the stove while I separated the eggs. Problem was when I added the egg yolks they cooked in the hot milk. Oops! Be sure to whisk the egg yolks into the milk before you start heating it and keep whisking as it heats. Scrambled eggs are not what you want on your cake.
