1 cup dates, cut up
2 cups boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
Pour boiling water over dates and soda. Set aside.

2 tbsp. butter 2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1-2 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
In large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Sift flour and salt. Mix with sugar mixture, stirring thoroughly. Add date and soda mixture. and beat well. Add nuts. Pour into greased 14.5 ounce cans, fill only half full. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Can use chopped dried apricots in place of dates.
