1 lb. boneless beef round steak, inch thick
4 oz. uncooked spicy bratwurst or other sausage, cut into 3/4-inch slices
1 tbsp. cooking oil
1 small onion, sliced and separated into rings
2 tbsp. quick-cooking tapioca
1 tsp. crushed dried thyme
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 (14 1/2 oz.) can chunky tomatoes with garlic and spices
egg noodles or rice

Trim fat from meat. Cut meat into serving-size pieces. In a large skillet brown meat and bratwurst or sausage on all sides in hot oil. Drain off fat.

In a 3 1/2 or 4 quart crock pot place onion. Sprinkle with tapioca, thyme, salt and pepper. Pour undrained tomatoes over onion. Then add meat.

Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 10 to 12 hours or high-heat setting for 5 to 6 hours. Serve over noodles or rice
