6 Tbsp flour
pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups of evaporated milk
4 egg, separated
1 tsp vanilla
1 pre cooked and cooled pie shell

Directions:
Combine the first 3 ingredients in a bowl. Put 1/2 of milk in a sauce pan and let it just warm. Add the dry ingredients to the warm milk and mix. Add the remaining milk and cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from burner and add the egg yolks and vanilla and stir well. Pour into precooked pie shell.
For pie topping:
Beat egg whites with vanilla until stiff peaks form. Then add 2/3 cup sugar and beat again. Spoon the beaten egg whites onto the pie filling, sealing edges. Bake at 300º until egg whites turn golden brown, about 5-10 minutes.

My grandma Betty always doubles the recipe and pours it into one deep dish pie pan.
