1 1/2 cups dry green split peas
1/2 pound whole yellow peas
1 lbs smoked pork shoulder or picnic ham
7 cups water
2 celery sticks, chopped
2 large carrots, shredded
1 cups chopped onion
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Place peas in a dutch oven, cover with water. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat, let stand for 1 hour. Drain and discard liquid. Place peas in large dutch oven. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook for 3 hours or until peas are tender or thick, stirring occasionally. Remove pork, cool and cut into chunks, discarding bone and fat. Return to pan and heat through.
