2 cups sugar- divided
1 cup milk or canned milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 stick of real butter-
1 cup pecan pieces

Directions:
Directions:
Set ¼ stick of butter aside. Use remainder to butter 13x9 pan. Melt 1 cup of sugar in a heavy pan. Stir constantly. After first cup of sugar has liquefied add remaining 1 cup of sugar and milk. Cook until soft ball stage. Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Beat until creamy and any sheen is gone (as done with fudge). Stir in pecans. Pour into pan. Let cool to room temperature before cutting.
*Note: Sugar will become golden in color during making.

This was a recipe of Steph’s great-great grandmother Watkins who was married more than 50 years. Making the candy was a family tradition.
