1/2 C Shortening
1-1/2 C Sugar
2 Eggs
2 oz Red Food Coloring
2 Tbls Cocoa
1 tsp Salt
1 C Buttermilk
2-1/4 C Flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 T Vinegar
1 tsp Baking Soda
Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 deg.

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make a paste with red coloring and cocoa and add to above mixture.

Add salt, buttermilk, flour and vanilla and mix. Stir in soda and vinegar (DO NOT BEAT, BUT STIR)

I use 3 - 8" greased and floured pans and bake 25 min. Check with toothpick - Cool on racks
