Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pound orange slices, cut up
1 8-oz package chopped dates
2 cups chopped nuts
1 can (3 1/4-oz) flaked coconut
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Cake: Sift together and set aside: flour and salt.
Combine: orange slices, dates, chopped nuts, and coconut.
Add: 1/2 cup of flour mixture, mixing well. Set aside.
Work with a spoon: butter, sugar, eggs.
Mix: 1 teaspoon soda and 1/2 cup buttermilk.
Add: Rest of flour mixture. Blend well and add candy mixture.
Put in 10-inch tube pan which has been greased and floured. Bake at 300-degrees for 1 hour and 45 minutes

Glaze/Icing: Combine: 1 cup orange juice, 2 cups powdered sugar. Pour over hot cake. Cool. Then let stand in refrigerator overnight before removing from pan.

This is just about the same as above instructions for this cake; however, Clyde also had these directions written down in another place.
Cream butter (or margarine) and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine buttermilk and soda in another bowl. Add alternately to butter/sugar mixture with flour, setting aside a bit of flour. Dredge dates, orange candy slices (chopped) and coconut in reserved flour and add to cake batter. Pour into greased tube pan and bake at 250 degrees for 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 hours. When cake is done, mix orange juice and powdered sugar. Remove cake from oven and pour over cake immediately. Let cake stand in pan about 30 minutes and remove when cool. Let sit overnight or longer before serving.
