10 egg whites
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup milk
3 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder (Royal)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Filling
10 egg yolks
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons flour
2 lemons—juice
1/2 cup butter

Directions:

Cake:
Cream butter, adding sugar gradually. Sift together flour and baking powder and add to the batter alternately with milk and flavoring. Fold in beaten egg whites. Bake in layers at 375 degrees until done.
Filling:
Mix ingredients and cook in double boiler until thick.

This is called Cheese cake because the filling is the color of cheddar cheese.
Mrs. Knowles, of Montgomery, Alabama, gave Mama this recipe when I was a baby. Mama often cooked this on special occasions.
