3 cups flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1 ½ tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup margarine
2 cups sugar
3 beaten eggs
1 cup buttermilk
2 scant teaspoons soda
1 grated apple

FILLING
3 cups sugar
2 cups sweet milk
1/4 cup margarine
pinch of soda or 1 scant teaspoon baking powder
1 cup grated coconut
1 cup nuts
1 cup raisins
1 grated orange rind
1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
1 can cream cheese frosting (or homemade)

Cake:
Sift together flour, cinnamon, cloves & cocoa. Cream margarine with sugar until mixed. Add beaten eggs and beat until fluffy. Add flour mixture and buttermilk with soda in it alternately to egg mixture, beating after each addition. Last, add grated apple to the mixture and fold in. Pour into layer pans lined with waxed paper and bake in 350-degree oven about 35-40 minutes.

Filling:
Dump all in sauce pan and cook to hard ball stage, stirring constantly. Cool slightly. Add 1 cup grated coconut, 1 cup nuts, 1 cup raisins, 1 grated orange rind, 1 cup crushed pineapple, drained. Spread on cake. Ice side of cake with cream cheese frosting
