1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
2/3 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 425º
2. Sift together the dry ingredients into a large bowl
3. Cut in the shortening.
4. Make a nest in the flour mixture and add the buttermilk. Gently knead the mixture with your hands until thoroughly combined and a soft dough forms.
5. On a floured cutting board, pat the dough to a 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass
6. Place the biscuits on a cookie sheet and bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
