Cake-
1 3/4 c. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 stick butter
2 eggs
2 squares unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
1/4 cup walnuts, finely chopped

Frosting-
2 1/2 - 3 c. sifted confectioner's sugar
1/4 c. cocoa, sifted with confectioner's sugar
1/3 c/ butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
enough cream to mix

Cake-
1. Preheat oven to 350º.
2. Grease and flour 3 8" cake pans.
3. Cream butter and sugar.
4. Add eggs, mixing in well.
5. Stir in vanilla, cooled chocolate and buttermilk.
6. Mix together flour, baking soda and salt.
7. Combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing after each addition and starting and and ending with dry.
8. Divide batter equally between prepared pans.
9. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
10. Place 1 layer on a cake plate and spread with frosting.
11. Place 2nd layer on first. Spread with frosting.
12. Place 3rd layer on second and frost entire cake.
13. Sprinkle chopped walnuts on top of cake.

Frosting-
1. Cream butter and sifted sugar/cocoa mixture.
2. Stir in vanilla.
3. Stir in cream until desired consistency.
