1/2 cup warm water
2 pkgs active dry yeast
4 1/2 - 5 cups flour
1 1/2 cup oats
1 cup milk
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup shortening
1/4 molasses
2 eggs

Directions:
DIssolve: 2 tsp sugar in 1/2 cup warm water in large warm bowl. Sprinkle yeast into water mixture. Let stand 10 minutes, then stir well. Heat milk to warm. Add warm milk, sugar, salt, shortening, molasses, eggs oats and 1 cup flour to dissolved yeast mixture. Beat with wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in rest of flour gradually. Knead 5-10 minutes on flour coated surface until dough is smooth, elastic and no longer sticky.

Place in lightly greased bowl, cover with greased wax paper and tea towel. Let dough rise in warm place until doubled. (about 1 hour) Punch down dough, turn out on board and divide dough into 2. Round up each portion. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Shape each portion into a loaf. Place in a well greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 3/4 inch bread pans. Cover with greased wax paper and let rise again until dough rises 1 1/2 " above top of pan. (45 minutes). Bake at 400ºF for 45-50 minutes. Remove from pans immediately. Brush top crust with butter. Cool on wire racks.
