1 1/2 cups white sugar
5 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup shortening
1 ts. vanilla
3 cups oatmeal
1 cup coconut
1/4 tsp. salt
cherries for center (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar and cocoa in saucepan.
Add milk.
Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves.
Bring to a boil.
Add shortening and oats, stirring briskly so as not to burn.
Cook 1 to 3 minutes stirring briskly.
Remove pan from heat.
Add vanilla, salt and coconut.
Drop by teaspoonful on waxed paper.
