1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg beaten
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
1 cup raisins
2 cups diced raw apples
2 cups cooked pinto beans (mashed)
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp vanilla extact

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and butter. Add beaten egg and mashed beans, sift dry ingredients together and add to sugar mixture. Add apples, raisins, chopped nuts and vanilla. Pour into a well greased 10 inch tube pan. Bake in 375º oven for 45 minutes.
BUTTERMILK ICING
2 cups white sugar
1tsp baking soda
1 stick oleo
1 cup buttermilk
2 tbsp white syrup
Mix together thoroughly. Cook, stirring often, until soft ball forms when dropped in water. Cool and beat.

One of my favorite cooking memories of Granny was one Christmas she had baked a cake and insisted on everyone tasting and then guess what the "secret ingredient" was. I don't think anyone guessed. She got a kick out of it, I can still hear her laugh !
