2 c. raisins
1 c. water
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp, baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Place raisins and water in a saucepan and bring to boil. Boil for 2 minutes. Set aside to cool. Do not drain. Mix flour, baking powder & soda, salt and spices in a bowl. In a separate bowl cream shortening and slowly add sugar. Next add beaten eggs, then raisins and liquid and the vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture thoroughly. Drop by tablespoon onto a greased baking sheet about 2 in. apart. Bake at 325º for approximately 10-12 minutes.
