1 stick butter
4 squares semi-sweet chocolate (or 12 T cocoa)
1/2 tsp salt
1 large can evaporated milk
2 cups sugar (or 3 cups with cocoa)

Directions:
Melt butter in double boiler (put one sauce pan of another to improvise!) Drop in chocolate/cocoa and stir til melted. Add sugar a little at a time, stirring well til sugar has been added. Add salt and slowly stir in milk. After all milk has been added, let cook til all sugar is completely dissolved. Stir occasionally. Keeps in fridge for a long time (if not eaten first!) May be reheated. For HOT FUDGE CAKE: Bake a butter recipe fudge cake in 9x13 and then top with ice cream and hot fudge sauce.

Hot fudge cake is always a favorite. Make the sauce ahead and then pop the cake in the oven and in no time, you have a great dessert that all will love. Miss Linda and I made a many a hot fudge cake for all the youth gatherings - it was always a hit! Can't go wrong with this one!
