2 medium sized apples
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
2 17 oz cans of yams - OR - 4-5 medium sweet potatoes, cooked
3 tablespoons butter, chopped or slices
2 cups mini marshmallows
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
1/2 cup dried cherries, optional
1/2 cup dried cranberries, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Combine apples, sugar, spices, and nuts. Set aside.

In a 9x13 casserole dish, alternate layers of yams with the apple/nut mixture. Place chopped or cut pads of butter on the top layer. Cover with foil.

Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes

Remove from the oven, uncover, sprinkle marshmallows on top. Return to oven and bake an additional 15-20 minutes or until the marshmallows begin to brown.
