1/2 c Gold Medal Flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 lb beef stew meat
2 tbsp. shortening
6 c very hot water
3 paired medium potatoes cut into 1 in cubes
4 carrots sliced 1 in.
1 c celery sliced 1 in
1/2 onion diced
2 beef bouillon cubes (or 1 pkg dry onion soup mix)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour, salt and pepper and coat meat with mixture.
Melt shortening in large skillet and brown throughly.
Add water and heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 2 hrs
Mix in all remaining ingredients and simmer 30 min until veg are done.
If desired, thicken stew. In covered small jar, Shake 1 c cold water and 2-4 tbsp flour until well blended. Srit into stew and heat to boiling stirring constantly. Boil and stir one min 6 servings

Chicken Stew Use 3-4 lb cut up chicken, 2 chicken bouillon cubes and increase first cooking to 2 1/2 hrs, Skim fat if needed and then add vegetables and finish cooking like above beef stew recipe
