1 lb lean ground beef
1 cup raw packaged precooked rice
2 1/2 cups tomato juice
1 large egg
3 tablespoons grated fresh onion or 2 teaspoons instant minced
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried basil, marjoram or oregano leaves
1 teaspoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Mix meat rice 1/2 cup tomato juice the egg onion salt pepper and 1/4 teaspoon basil in large bowl until well blended. Shape into 16 balls using t tablespoons mixture for each. Arrange in a single layer in a large heavy skillet or shallow pot. Stir sugar and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon basil into the remaining 2 cups of tomato juice and pour over meatballs. Cover and bring to boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer 15 minutes. Uncover simmer 5 minutes longer, spooning sauce over meatballs 2 or 3 times. Transfer to heated serving dish and sprinkle with Parsley or put in an 8 inch square baking pan to reheat at site. Pack parsley and sprinkle on top before serving.
