3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup soft butter
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Topping (in separate bowl - mix together):
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 Tblsp flour
2 tsp cinnamon
2 Tblsp butter, melted
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350º. Mix together the sugar, butter and egg. Stir in the milk and flour mixture (flour, baking powder, salt). Spread half the batter into a greased & floured loaf pan. Sprinkle with half of the topping. Layer the rest of the batter into the pan & sprinkle the remainder of the topping on it. Bake until wooden pick thrust into center of cake comes out clean (about 30 - 40 minutes). Serve in slices - warm or cool. It is great either way.

This was Dad's favorite at Christmas. This was the "gift" he wanted from me every year. And he didn't even drink coffee! The recipe is from a very old copy of Betty Crocker's Cook Book.
