1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 (1/2 stick) chilled butter
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese
1 egg
2 tablespoons water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift the flour, salt and cayenne pepper into a bowl. Cut in the butter and cheese with a pastry blender or fork. Beat the egg and water in a small bowl. Add to the flour mixture and knead into a stiff dough. Roll or pipe the dough into 1/2 x 5-inch strips and place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool.

Yield: 24 cheese straws
